Now is the Time to Invite your Legislator to School!
Template Letter Available

Establishing personal relationships with legislators is essential to effective advocacy. As school nutrition professionals, you are an authority on nutrition and health as integral components of proper education and successful learning. As employees in Wisconsin’s schools, you work for institutions that legislators hold in high esteem. In other words, you are in a unique position to be a genuinely valuable contact for any legislator.

Use your position to invite your legislators to your schools. Show them what you do on a daily basis to provide nutritious meals to Wisconsin’s kids. By providing a tour you can establish that important relationship while educating policymakers on your profession and issues the profession faces. When legislators experience issues firsthand, they’re more likely to effectively address the issue.

Now is the time to reach out to your legislators. During election season, they are eager to meet with anyone willing to meet with them. Don’t be intimidated. It’s not difficult. All you need to do is reach out to their legislative offices to set up a time to meet. Attached is a draft letter for you to use. Be sure to edit the highlighted areas! Alternatively, if you wish to call their office, legislative phone numbers can be found here. Please note, all phone numbers are in 608 area code and preceded by numbers 26 (example: 608-266-1111).

Additionally, if you need help finding out who your legislators are, please see this map.

If you have any questions prior to contacting your legislator, feel free to call our government affairs team, Hoven Consulting, at 608-310-8833.
