Governor’s School Health
Award
Governor Jim Doyle and State Superintendent Burmaster
have initiated the Governor's School Health Award (www.schoolhealthaward.wi.gov)
recognizing and celebrating schools that support and
promote healthy eating; physical activity; alcohol-,
tobacco-, and drug-free lifestyles; and parental and
community involvement. The goal of this award is to
motivate and empower all Wisconsin schools to develop
the policies, programs, and the infrastructure to create
and maintain healthy school environments.
Is your school is interested in the program and applying?
Here are some questions to ask about your school.
Does your school:
• promote healthy nutritional choices?
• get students active?
• have policies in place that address staff and
student wellness?
• have a committee that oversees wellness efforts
in your school?
• prevent alcohol, tobacco, and drug use?
• actively involve parents?
As you reflect on and answer these questions, consider
applying for the Governor's School Health Awards
All schools applying for and/or receiving an award
will be personally recognized by Governor Doyle and
the State Superintendent. There are three levels of
awards: a wall plaque with a commendation from the
Governor and State Superintendent (bronze school), a
wall banner suitable to hang outdoors (silver school),
and a gold star plaque for your school's sidewalk (gold
school).
Sponsors of the Governor's School Health Award include
the Governor's Office, Governor's Council on Physical
Fitness and Health, Department of Public Instruction,
Department of Health and Family Services, and WEATrust.

Caution Required When Opening E-mails
Recently numerous e-mail accounts have been flooded with viruses and worms. Many of these e-mails may appear to come from legitimate e-mail addresses of people or businesses. That is because these new viruses use a technique called spoofing. Spoofing allows the viruses to fool users into thinking the e-mail is from someone they actually know.
Some individuals have contacted SNA-Wisconsin about messages that appear to come from a legitimate SNA-Wisconsin e-mail address. The ONLY SNA-Wisconsin email address that you will ever get anything legit from is info@sna-wi.org. An email with anything else before the domain SNA-Wisconsin.org is not from our office. Although these e-mails appear to be from SNA-Wisconsin, they are not. The e-mail messages are harmless, but the attachments contain viruses. Do not open these attachments
- immediately delete these messages from your mailbox. We know this is an inconvenience, but at this time there is no action the Association can take against the worm. For your protection, we suggest that you use and update your virus software frequently. We apologize for any inconvenience you experience. |
