SNA-Wi Legislative Update & Call to Action

As many of you know, SNA-WI leaders attended a reception for State Assembly Representative Mike Huebsch (R-West Salem). Rep. Huebsch will likely become the speaker of the State Assembly. SNA-WI attended this event in hopes of educating Rep. Huebsch, and consequently members of the Assembly, about school nutrition issues in Wisconsin.

The meeting was positive, and when SNA-WI leadership talked about issues regarding breakfast funding, Rep. Huebsch encouraged SNA-WI members to invite their State Senators and State Assembly Men and Women into their schools to see school meal programs first-hand! He suggested that our chances may be increased in getting the State budgetary items for breakfast passed if we can get at least 90% of the state legislators invited to breakfast in the schools. He also said that December is a good month for legislators to make visits, and that Mondays and Fridays usually work out the best.

Please consider inviting your State Legislators in to your schools to show them school meals, specifically breakfast, first-hand! Members of the SNA-WI Legislative Committee are available to help you invite your legislators and assist you in planning your legislator visit. If you are interested, please do not hesitate to contact Sharon Boos, SNA-WI Legislative Committee Chair, at sharon@kmsd.edu or (262) 968-6300 x5323.

If you are unsure who your State Legislators are, please visit the SNA-WI What's New In Legislation Section of the website for a link to this information.

If you decide to move forward with this initiative, please let Sharon know, or contact the SNA-WI office, so that we can keep track of the success of this initiative!
